About Edgar Allan Poe

Born January 19th.1809 in Boston Massachusetts, Edgar Allan Poe was a poet, short-story writer, editor and literary critic and part of the American Romantic Movement.
Although best known for his stories of the macabre he is also attributed with being the first detective novelist and a contributor to the growing genre of science fiction.
His fictitious detective C Auguste Dupin  prompted Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to remark “Where was the detective story before Poe breathed life into it?”
Poe died 19 1849 aged only 40.
